The Barton Firtop Conical Strainer is a simple yet effective filtration device primarily designed for temporary or commissioning service within pipeline systems. Installed directly between pipe flanges, it provides an economical solution for removing large debris and solid contaminants during system start-up or testing phases. Available in \u201cwitch-hat\u201d and \u201ctop-hat\u201d configurations, the conical strainer offers flexibility for both horizontal and vertical installations. While it provides reliable protection at low cost, its limited dirt-holding capacity and the need for full spool removal during cleaning make it less suited for continuous-duty applications. Using FEA and CFD to design our strainers, we cater for client specified Minimum Safe Working Differential Pressures (MSWDP) with a minimum of 1.0 bar MSWDP (up to 24\u201d NB). A conical strainer should be installed with the \u2018pointed end\u2019 flow-facing to avoid excessive turbulence which can be caused by vortexes that occur when the flow runs in the opposing direction. We don\u2019t highly recommend conical strainers, as they are costly to maintain when the entire pipe spool requires dismantling for cleaning access. For commissioning applications, operators prefer T-Type or Y-Type strainers that \u2018payback\u2019 during the commissioning cycle, due to the single flange screen access making cleaning quicker and easier. If a Conical strainer is mandatory, we recommend the \u2018Witch-Hat\u201d type is deployed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
